My 1999 BMW 323I would occasionally not engage in reverse. This happened initially without warning. After driving the car around for awhile, low and behold, reverse would engage. The dealer told me that the shift plate was not aligned and the car was thinking it was in neutral. After having that replaced at $700, the next day, same problem.10/10

Jul 03, 2019 · When I bought my BMW 323i in 1999, I didn’t even think about the transmission, and I’m frustrated with the options today because of all the complaints. On the other hand, I’m not a car enthusiast or speed demon by any stretch and I don’t drive hundreds of miles a week anymore so maybe I’m taking all this way too literally.
