BT are supposedly looking into my initial call to report a faulty phone line (not a fault with the broadband). I am going to take the further (as I doubt BT with remove the charge altogether), with the ombudsman because it is a disgraceful way to treat long term customers.

Jun 21, 2011 · After a couple of calls to BT I followed all the instructions, even went out to buy a corded phone and new filters to try in the master socket as instructed, but the fault prevailed. The BT person heard the crackling so said they would now send out an engineer but we would have to pay £130 if the fault was on our equipment or wiring.

Having just received the same hit on my phone bill, it seems that BT goes out of its way to lull customers into thinking that they are not going to be charged for fixing problems in BT's own equipment and lines, and then finds any excuse to levy a charge. I too was assured that there would be no charge if the fault was not within my premises.

Oct 23, 2011 · The punchline, of course, is that you can only get the details of these people by asking BT - and I asked them 3 or 4 times to provide the details and they just refused. And I don't think Watchdog would be interested - they must get hundreds of complaints about BT each day and it's been that way for years - it's hardly breaking news for them.
