The membership required $700 up-front for three years and promised a yearly renewal of $49 every year after. I have paid my $49 every April on time, and I use the club about 225 days a year. I received my renewal yesterday and to my surprise- 24 Hour is increasing my membership fee to $129 a year.

In Colorado, Bally's Total Fitness was bought out by 24 Hour Fitness. I had a lifetime membership from Bally's, that was locked in at $50 a year. When 24 Hour Fitness took over, I was told by them that my lifetime membership would be honored. I paid my first year online, and paid at the gym the following year with a credit card.
