The 4 cylinder engine in my 2017 jeep Cherokee burns an excessive amount of oil. The engineers designing the vehicle felt the best way to address this issue is not to alert drivers by an onboard message, but shutting the engine down when low oil is detected, and placing it in a limp/low power mode.
