They said that in such cases, your credit card will not be charged. So, undeterred (on christmas day!) I made my second attempt, got my address completely right. Everything went through and my card was charged that day. Christmas went well, all is good. Three days later, unannounced the gift card becomes invalid and the credit is returned.
