Simply took the macrobid capsules as prescribed and did not notice any negative effects. Infection was eliminated according to subsequent urine cultures. The only possible side effect noted was stomach upset, if the medication is taken on a completely empty stomach. Discoloration of urine while taking the medication may also be observed.

I was prescribed Nitrofurantoin (Macrobid) after a lab culture confirmed I had a UTI. I had been experiencing symptoms of the UTI for about 5 days before beginning treatment - feeling like I constantly had to pee, peeing only a little at a time, and a burning sensation at the urethra when going - but no abdominal pain at all.
