The organizer doesn't report to Meetup and the organizer has the discretion to remove - rightly or wrongly - people from the group, so complaining to Meetup.com won't get you anywhere. Leave a negative feedback in the group. You should be able to rate the event and the group, I believe?

It should be illegal for companies to charge for any ongoing fees without at least 30 day notification of the upcoming charge! Any company that does business in this manner is a rip-off.
