I use the Nikon F6 and this camera is in the same league in auto focus, handling and ergonomics. It is responsive and has a very nice feel for a shooter with smaller hands. I have used F3's, F100's, D70 and D70s bodies. None of these bodies are massive nor had a built in grip either. I am very happy with this D300. Thank you Nikon.

Feb 16, 2011 · Even with digital, lenses are a better investment. The difference between D200 an D300 image quality is smaller than the difference between a cheap consumer-grade lens and a nice pro one. The D300 and a 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 AF-S VR would cost $2,400. I would rather buy the D200 @ $500 plus the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 AF-S VR for a total of $2,300.

Let’s hope that Nikon doesn’t mess up the D500’s life cycle like they did the D300’s. A D500s in 2018 that adds features and sands off some rough edges would be welcome, and a full refresh in 2020 would be nice instead of waiting forever again. So Nikon’s done it again: the D300/D3 pairing was great, and so is the D500/D5 pairing.

Otherwise my contrast settings may have shifted the D300 slightly. The morie pattern is due to the halftone line screen. I wanted to check and see how the D300 handled color - due to complaints about the D200 being different to the pro bodies.
