Re: Pertronix Ignitor ---anyone had problems? I had constant trouble with the points in the old 312 in my 57 Ford. I took them out 2 years ago and threw them as far as I could, then put in a Pertronix ignition. Fired right up on the 1st turn and has ever since. I have a Mallory unilite in my Mustang, works perfectly.

Apr 10, 2018 · Pertronix makes a few different units, including a 3 ohm, 1.5 ohm, and 0.6 ohm coil. The OP hasn't told us what flavor of Ignitor and Coil he has, but their 0.6 ohm coil and Ignitor 1 module used together would draw over 20 amperes

Jan 21, 2019 · The Pertronix documentation explicitly states that the total resistance of the coil plus the ballast resistor must be at least 3 ohms. If it’s less, the ignition will draw more current than the Pertronix is rated for, and fry it.

I believe the early Pertronix unit you describe is simply a fixed dwell device - and while a lower resistance coil (one tough enough to last) could jump the ignition performance a bit - the original systems did work well enough to fire the engine and drive all over America. Re: Pertronix Ignitor ---anyone had problems? I had a misfire problem with mine. I called petronix and they said if the gap is good to check the hieght of the wheel. They said if it is sitting to low it will not pick up properly. The guy at petronix said to raise it using a garden hose washer. I did that and never had any more problems.

Aug 17, 2009 · Thanks all for the input. I have a Pertronix 2 billet distribuor in my '55 that I am happy with and a Pertronix module in my Healey. Both are great. The question is on the Pertronix 3 unit, which has a rev limiter and supposed to have multi-spark (aka MSD) but built into the module.
