RCI now operates two different programs and which one you're part of is determined primarily by your resort's relationship with RCI. The RCI Weeks program is the more traditional arrangement you describe above -- you use your own week at your home resort, or deposit it with RCI for an exchange at another Weeks resort (assuming availability during the time(s) you want to go, etc....

Had to give a one in order to review. I have just tried to make a reservation through the RCI chat line. I pay my membership fee, a platinum membership fee and am asked either to pay an exchange fee of £181 or £215 if I want to protect my points!

It seems, again, that RCI is giving preferential treatment to non-members willing to pay top dollar for gold crown resorts and suites. Personally, my major complaint with RCI is the way that they conduct business using their deceitfully underhanded, high-pressure sales tactics.

You all should create a new forum about timeshare complaints not RCI complaints this is misleading and inaccurate especially for new owners who also join with RCI then stumble upon this misinformation.

The gist of this Forum Topic originally was whether or not membership in the RCI Exchange Program (a separate issue from timeshare ownnership, because you definitely can own a timeshare without joining RCI if you choose to do so) was a good investment.
