Dec 31, 2015 · While seemingly quite noisy the MD-80 fell pretty comfortably within Stage-3 regulations.At the time it was a big improvement over types like the 727. Imo, the FAA next needs to move onto limiting Stage 3 commercial jets, and requiring Stage-4 noise levels standards (-10dB reduction) which was identified by ICAO in 2001 and adopted by the US in 2005.
