This is a myth! The B3 drive is not the culprit...it's the company Mercruiser, themselves, in the way that they handled the complaints. There was inadequate anode protection on the 1999-2003 drives, they knew it, and then exacerbated the problem by denying it and blaming the consumer for not taking proper care of the equipment.

We just pulled a Volvo out of a SV 25 and replaced it a a FPT engine, exact same HP and the FPT engine ran the boat 5 knts faster at cruise. The Volvo is a good engine, just a bit antiquated. But, as long as you know what you are in for, expensive parts, smoke, turbo whine, etc, it will live a loooong time.

Jan 13, 2011 · I think the Stingrays have a good formula. Their website is actually pretty cool. In response to the above, I haven't needed to call or deal with customer service. I will say that the Chaparral owners sight is fantastic with a ton of daily activity from other owners. Chaps also can be had with both Volvo or Mercruiser.
