I have made a formal complaint and will be taking it further with some of their customers. It would put me off ordering online from a company that I know uses Yodel.

Dec 06, 2011 · I've emailed Amazon today and told them that if Yodel is their preferred courier I will not be ordering from them again. After my email to them I got a dispatch notice for my bargainous Nigella Christmas today and sadly that is being sent by Yodel. I might as well start looking for a replacement now as that will be another order I'll never receive.

The reason the likes of HDNL and Yodel don't listen to your complaints is that you are not their customer. They make money from their contract with Amazon. You are irrelevant to them. In every case you have a problem you need to go straight to Amazon who, to be fair, are usually good at dealing with complaints.
