Jun 14, 2007 · The 597 is pretty good for a cheap .22 rifle, especially since the upgrades are already there for the previous ejector/magfeed troubles, or they are available from Remington for free. That 597 is a full size and accurate .22, and now is more or as reliable as the Ruger. If you buy the target version of either, you'll save money in the long run.

Seems Remington has once again discontinued the 597 22 WMR as have other manufactures. Reason is they have been ammo picky. This one didn't like one ammo brand one little bit. Premature blow back extraction blew out the magazine, and destroyed same. Silly me tried again with repeat performance.3.7/5(3)

Jan 18, 2011 · I have a stock 597M with a cheap scope on it. The gun will shoot 1/2" at 50 yds. with most premium ammo such as the Remington V-max 33gr. The trigger is nasty but the gun shoots. I've heard others complain about the 597 as being unreliable but so far I have only the trigger complaint.

Sep 12, 2015 · You want a Remington 597 HB then get a Remington 597 HB. You get whatever trips your trigger, after all, it will be your rifle. Get the rifle and maybe 7 or 8 flavors of 22 LR ammunition and see what it likes. Since it's your rifle I don't see any need for you to explain your logic or choice as to make and model. Ron

Jan 20, 2017 · I was at my local Wally world tonight and noticed a Remington 597 with a price tag in front of it that said $54. The tag said Rem 597 on it so it's not like it belonged to a different product. There wasn't anyone there so I don't know if it was a typo or not. I check out thier guns from time to time because they had Ruger Americans on sale for $199 not to long ago.
