Mar 14, 2007 · The last time I re outfitted my mapping stuff I went with an Airmar B256. Its a through hull transducer but I got around that by having a local machine shop bend 1/4 X 3 piece of aluminum into an L shape with a 3 inch radius curve. Then I put three small holes on the long side and one big one for the transducer on the short.

The B256/258 has four elements that shoot both 50 & 200 hz frequencies. Yes, the B/M260's have 7 elements, but they are specifically for 50 hz freq. Only one element shoots 200 hz. Airmar's specs state that the B258 is more sensitive at 200 hz than the B260, and the B260 is far more sensitive @ 50hz.

I intend to use the standard depth sounder with the airmar P79 in hull. Hopefully it will work as you are aware Whaler did allow a designated place in the bilge for ducer mounting. I did add a 2nd bilge pump Rule 1500 Automatic operated by the same in dash switch on the panel.Added a thru-hull also for the pump out. So far no major complaints.

Jul 31, 2006 · Hey guys, I just spent a week on Lac Seul, where we would catch 60+ fish a day vertical jigging while anchored, and while I spent $1000 on a new colour Lowrance finder, and I had sensitivity cranked to 100%, AND I zoomed into the bottom 4 feet of water, we could not mark any of the fish we were catching right on bottom.
