The issue is not only the darker color of the decking but the limited ventilation provided by just 1-1/2" of open air below the decking.

Oct 05, 2011 · We are just finishing up on an Azek deck installed with Cortex, looks great and should last a long time. One thing was the picture framing though, I didn't account for that and we really needed to do it to cover the raw edges. Either that or run the rim up over the edges, but I don't like that look.

Apr 23, 2018 · Azek decking, TimberTech decking, and Trex decking have solved most of these issues. 8-10 years ago fading was a major problem, but the newer, higher end boards do not fade much (it’s literally part of their warranties). Mold is not an issue with Azek decking as the product is all PVC.

Jul 02, 2017 · Not sure how much their process has changed, had some problems with color fade and some breakdown of the cap but that was a long time ago. Since being duralife by integrity composites I've only done 1 deck with it and it hasn't had any issues (saw it 2 years after install). They have their own clip design and it's a pretty nice clip.
