He said Chrysler has sent him letters numerous times offering to buyback his vehicle but he's refused. (He thinks it's because they don't want to have to honor the lifetime powertrain warranty)

Unfortunately lifetime does not mean lifetime to MOPAR/Chrysler/Jeep in spite of the FAQ indication that it does.

I purchased a Dodge Ram 1500 new in 2009 with a lifetime power-train warranty and purchased a lifetime extended warranty at the same time now at approx 45000 miles I have a breakdown on the highway and have my truck towed 70 miles back to Phoenix to the Dealer only to have Chrysler deny repairs under the warranty. Sounds like Corporate Fraud to me.
