Jun 12, 2005 · The Focus is known for this key problem, the barrel I think it's called inside the ignition is an inferior part and wears out, especaially if you have a heavy set of keys you use all the time. I had it last spring after I came out of the hair shop. Ford refuses to admit it's a problem and should be a recall with the other 11 recalls on this car.

However, since all Ford Focus 2000-2003 ignition cylinders are defective and have this same problem, it is very likely to happen again, and instead of being stranded at a friend's apartment, I might be stranded much farther from home.
