If someone has been with a company for a period of time and in a contract to me the price should not change, I understand they have package deals for the first year but your base price should stay the same. Directv feels that it is a good idea to raise a contracted price after the first year deal almost a $10 increase to "everyone".

May 10, 2017 · Channels are subject to change. DirecTV cannot force the channel owner to give them permission. Channel turns of their feed to increase costs. That increase would come from us customers. Since locals are designed to be received by their free over-the-air (OTA) broadcasts, I do not want my bill going up because of channels that are otherwise "free".

I'm not sure about DirecTV, but Dish has a guaranteed two- to three-year price lock depending on the contract. Comcast has two-year contracts where the promo price only applies for the first year, then a discounted price for the months 12 to 18, then full price for months 18 to 24. My guess is DirecTV's contract is in line with Comcast.
