Both the transmitter and receiver do require power, so there needs to be power near both the source and the destination. The setup was extremely easy, requiring to just add power, and run and HDMI cable from my theater amplifier’s output, to the transmitter.8/10

The button's cable is long enough that I could have tie-wrapped it to the rack if I wanted to. If you needed more length you could use extension cables for the 15 pin VGA cable(s) and USB extension cables. I did NOT need any extensions.
