Mar 01, 2004 · the optis are not nearly as quiet as a 4- stroke. i have a 135 opti and also have had 0 problems. i fill my oil reservoir once per season and still has a little left by the end of the year. i may not fish as much as guides but i average atleast 2 full days a week of fishing. plus when the fishing slows my friends and i do some skiing and tubing.

Dec 01, 2011 · I have a 2005 Mercury Optimax.. Just curious how many other owners have problems with their mercury outboards? I have had to replace the impellor (sometimes twice) every year since I got the motor.. Atleast 4 or 5 times of getting trip cut short and idle speed all the way back to the boat ramp due to an heat alarm.

They extoll it's virtues and take pictures of black Mercury engines with a US flag in the back ground and go on about being union built in the USA. Then they say it is loud but test data shows different. Then they say it is not efficient but facts are that it is. Then they say the OptiMax is hated world wide but it wins the JD Powers award.

Apr 25, 2010 · My 2004 Optimax came with a 36 month 100% coverage warrenty. So I would think you purchased the extended warrenty beyond the Mercury coverage. Sorry to hear about this condition. You may want to rethink the offer for a new motor and as someone mentioned get the four stroke. I would believe the new motor would be covered under the Mercury warrenty?
