Jul 20, 2014 · Sided my own house in 2007-2008 with Hardi and Miatec trim. My house is a modern cape, so I went with a very traditional 5/4 x 4 trim detail with window sills and a kicker at the top. The sills were made from laminated azek and the kicker is azek as well, mounted at a 15 degree angle at the top.

Hardi trim is harder to detail and can't be shaped ( like with a router , or ripping )... the ends will always be nasty. it will cost more to buy and more labor to detail and install both will keep their paint for about the same time ( a long time ).. so... side by side...

Apr 28, 2001 · The Miratec is getting talked about a bit over in the Finish Carpentry Forum. So far, the jury's still out. Haven't heard from many people regarding it's performance. To tell you the truth, for simple things like fascia and rake boards, I would stick with the solid wood.

Oct 03, 2009 · Out of Miratec and Smart Trim, is one more water resistant and better at holding paint? Are they made any differently? They both appear to be engineered wood, although if you look at a cross section or look at the edges, the Miratec looks smoother and looks like it would be easier to paint because of the smoothness on the edge.

Nov 09, 2014 · To follow up on this thread, I replaced the 2 damaged frames with PVC trim. I kept the miratec that was cut out and just left if in the yard behind my shed. I was back there today and took a quick look at the pieces, and the swelling has continued, and gotten much worse.
