Oct 10, 2018 · The TV licence conditions allow reception on battery-powered portable equipment away from the licenced premises - does this not include radios? (I know brickies etc on site use a battery-powered radio). Is there a difference if the 'music' is a video stream, ie. youtube/vevo ? As then it isn't radio reception or an audio stream.

Like many others I received a phone call from PPL/PRS out of the blue and thought the call was a scam. I was questioned for 55 minutes and it was clear that the people on the other end had no clue as to what the small social enterprise for vulnerable adults was or understood how we use music.

As it happens we never went ahead with the music idea so I just wrote of the payment in my head and forgot about it, and of course didn't purchase another licence when it ran out a year later. 18 months on and I get an invoice for a years royalties plus the following year up front - £1350!!!! It appears the companies have now merged to PPL-PRS.
