However that does not work with 13.10 (and presumably later versions when they are released). Ubuntu 13.10 does not have the shopping lens any more but now has Smart Scopes instead. To disable a dash plug-in, From the dash select filter results then "Dash plugins" To disable a plugin, click on it and then click the "Disable" button.

Jun 11, 2014 · Since Ubuntu disables root by default, newbies don't learn the difference between root and a normal user, nor the difference between root and normal user commands. Starting with a regular Distro such as Fedora, Debian, etc... would teach them the normal way. Unfortunately, some users don't understand that Ubuntu is just another Linux Distro.

Apr 16, 2014 · Windows 8 64-bit host/ Ubuntu 13.10 64-bit guest I have never used Linux before but I built a Linux virtual machine which is working fine but I can not get a Shared folder working. I mapped the shared drive just as I have done for Windows guests and there are no complaints.

Nautilus (in Ubuntu 13.10 anyway), when you type stuff it does a system wide search instead of jumping to a file in a current directory (apparently this has been addressed for the upcoming Ubuntu 14.4). Nautilus lacks a nice way to just type a file url (and copy them). That is all (for now).

Developers at Canonical have concluded that the Mir desktop server (or, more specifically, the XMir layer) will not be ready in time to be shipped as the default configuration in the 13.10 release — though they do still plan to go with Mir for Ubuntu Touch. In a discussion on the subject at the current Ubuntu Developer Summit developers expressed broad support for the change, saying that they are "leaning towards" supporting such a switch.
