The phone service is good so I will not be leaving for a different provider but that does not mean I will succumb to this insanity. All my old phones are sitting in a dresser drawer. What you said about the Apple Store is partially true. If you buy the sim-free version where you move the sim card yourself then yes you avoid an upgrade fee. But if you purchase a Verizon iPhone at full cost and you give the Apple Store your cell plan info so they can activate the new sim card in the phone then you will be charged an upgrade fee.
