You don't have to opt into EuroTraveller. You can avoid the £3 daily charge by either not using your phone for that particular day or by opting out and paying the standard roaming charges. As a member of the armed forces posted abroad on active service, you can have your Vodafone account frozen whilst you're away for a maximum of 6 months.

Jul 01, 2012 · I'm not sure if this has been covered but despite being told in writing by Vodafone that as an existing data traveller customer I would be able to carry on using Vodafone data traveller as long as I didn't turn it off or change my contract today whilst in Germany and out of the uk for several months they started sending me texts stating I was now getting charged per mb at 69p.

Got this message from Vodafone put the phone straight into flight mode and only used it when around wifi and made phone calls over iMessage and what's app for free, they still charged me £3 for turning my phone on in Euro zone 2!!. Welcome. Calls cost 24.5p/min to make & 7.1p/min to receive. Texts are 8.1p and picture messages are 45p.
