I need help in understanding all the hype about problems with the 6.4 Liter Diesel. I've been warned by Ford Diesel Mechanics to not buy a 6.4 liter on a 2008. Something about being an intolerant engine to water/moisture. Financially, we need to go used at no more than about $35,000.

May 27, 2010 · I called the dealer and he has the one head off due to on cyl has 50 psi compression. I had alot of problems with my 6.0 and I too thought the egr cooler eas bad, but they say no and honestly I dont know how they tested it. I do know they are only doing what ford tech support says. Only had one other 6.4 aprt so Im worried.

Oct 27, 2011 · 6.4 does not suffer from EGR issues or oil cooler issues and head bolts. It will suffer from an EGR issue perhaps with alot of extended idling unless you do a high idle mod. Be aware the 6.4 does have EGR and now also has the DPF (diesel particulate filter) …
