Was never actually told what kind of vacation we could book in July for only 2000 points, but decided to buy anyway because it sounded like a good deal. I happened to read your post at dinner the very night we bought, and that prompted me to dig a bit further. The BBB has this "company" graded an F with a multitude of unresolved complaints.

I absolute agree with all your comments. I bought my Marriott Vacation Club Asia Pacific membership in Singapore on Aug. 2008 and only used it a few times as there's always no available room in my preferred schedule especially if reservation is made 2 to 3 months prior to travel.
