I’m annoyed as hell about this. There’s no way any of it is legitimate so I’m looking at putting together a detailed complaint to the Italian authorities and EU Commission for Consumers. Wondering whether anyone else has had a similar bad experience with Europcar Italy they would be prepared to share?

Europcar charges unreasonable amounts for damages to your rental car. I was charged 455 euro for a minor scratch, including 75 euro 'administration fee'. This is an outrageous amount that does not reflect the damage done to the car. On top of that Europcar converted the amount into my home currency without my consent, adding further cost.

I have a strong suspicion that a Europcar employee took the car off for an unauthorised trip and then tried to cover his/her tracks by changing your car return documents. Based on this refund, I have changed my review of Europcar from 1 to 3 stars. I still think this case has been less than positive and it has taken a lot of effort from me to be heard by Europcar. Europcar representative at counter immediately ignored this contract, and proceeded to mislead myself and upsell into a “similar SUV” at the additional cost of appx 500 UK Pounds (CAN$881) This is over 200% increase from the original contract. This exploit by Europcar is without doubt, unethical, deceitful and could be defined as unlawful.

Europcar Italy gave us a booking confirmation with a phone number that was invalid/non-existent.. Don't faff about trying to get them to reverse the charge: go to your credit card issuer and work through them. Their cars are okay their service sucks.
