Sep 02, 2005 · The first thing that caught my eye was the colour, transparent amber and the raw hoops on the bass drum. I'm not sure about the mapex hardware as I got Pearl stuff with my kit. Also you get Remo heads with the drums as standard, which really sold me the kit, for £520 that is amazing.

Apr 10, 2010 · Mapex had some issues with their drums and hardware in the late 80s. I can't recall specifics, only to say that most of the shops here in Toronto dropped their line for a period of time due to sets coming back with hardware issues.This has been resolved for quite some time now and Mapex makes excellent drums.

Feb 20, 2010 · I have been playing drums for 35 years. I played Ludwig, Slingerland, Rogers, Tama, DW, and Mapex. I have played studio, rock concerts, latin cocerts, and Jazz concerts, etc. Three months ago, I decided to buy my last top of the line kit. I was torn between the DW (for the name) and the MAPEX for Quality and Price. I purchased a MAPEX ORION.

The biggest knocks I hear on any Mapex kit is "oh they're imported crap".. usually from guys who are playing similarly imported Pearls, Yamahas, PDPs, etc. The PDP Concept Maple is a decent kit and you don't hear too many owners say they regret it. The Yamaha Stage Custom is on par with the Mapex Mars - 100% birch shells.

The set I just ordered has an awesome fade from black to red/orange. Every series can be customized to the number and sizes of drums you want. I don't really have any complaints, but some people don't like the hardware. I haven't owned a mapex long-term yet but I haven't seen anything go wrong with any. They also come with a warrantee.5/5
