Mercury motors no longer have model years, so you can't really discover a particular model by its model year. A Mercury VERADO motor is just a VERADO motor as far as Mercury is concerned, and they don't have model years.

Oct 24, 2006 · My 225 verado had the same trim problem before I bought it . I dont know the whole story but it had something to do with a wire rubbed just a little bit of the rubber off and had just a little ohmn draw. when moved or wiggled just right it would cause the motor to trim down.

If you read the threads in the mercury verado club there have been some problems with powerheads, sensors, superchargers, etc. How pervasive the problems are to-date and how much the owners are at faults (not following Mercury guidelines) would be difficult to ascertain.

I'm not a fan of Mercury, I have own Yamaha's and Evinrude's, next engine I purchase will be an Evinrude. I owned one Mercury in my life time it ran good until about 6 months after I sold it, then it died (Engine seized up). I'm sorry but I do not think they are good engines and I would not own one, Some people on this site swear by them.
