Sears and HD can bid projects out quite a bit higher than local companies -- it all depends on who is pricing it out. Look at it this way, I can walk into a HD and buy one of their top of the line double hungs for $350 out the door. If my installation is $150 per window (which is relatively high for normal installation) I'm at $500 per window.
