My UCLH Experience with the Maternity Services trulyinlove

Oct 29, 2015 · One of our friends even warned us against the maternity services provided in our borough and thus our reluctance to use the hospital in our area. A quick search on the internet/ netmums also shows that UCLH(and St Thomas) is one of the recommended state maternity hospitals among pregnant mothers.

UCLH does have some private rooms on the maternity ward, but they cost a fortune - something like £700 for 24 hours, but that includes a personal midwife. If you live locally they offer midwives in the community which means you don't need to go to the hospital every time. This can be nice.

I can't go to the UCLH "birth prep day" and as UCLH don't do tours, I don't have any real idea what the environment on either the labour ward or the birth centre will be like when I get there at which point I'll probably be in labour and feeling a bit vulnerable and overwhelmed already.

UCL Hospital - anyone have any experience? Mumsnet

    https://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/986078-UCL-Hospital-anyone-have-any-experience
I had my second child there two years ago. The maternity wing is fairly new and quite spacious, clean. There are some excellent consultants there (although unless you have a high risk pregnancy, you won't meet them!) and the special care baby unit is one of the best in the country. The birthing centre has mixed reviews.

UCLH private rooms in post-natal Mumsnet

Labour (Barabara Castle) abolished pay beds in the NHS back in the 1970s, but they have been creeping back since New Labour. They sell spare beds at the rate that people will pay for them (I think those who do not believe in a 2 tier NHS price them to deter).

Hi, I have just recently found out I am pregnant and very excited. However I am slightly confused which hospital to choose. I was thinking either Royal Free Hospital or UCLH. Has anyone given birth in any of these hospitals and can advise please? ANY advise on which maternity service is best between the 2 hospitals? Thanks,
