The 2009-plus 2.5L 4-cylinder model is the best option for reliability and fuel economy. The 2010 Tribute with the 2.5L 4-cylinder engine and automatic transmission is rated at 21/28 mpg city/hwy (402 miles to a tank).

2011 Mazda Tribute I have had no problems at all with my tribute. I wish perhaps I had better gas mileage as with a little economy car, but I would rather fill up more often and have the safety and security of my bigger, heavier tribute. Driver’s seat comfy and big, dashboard set up nicely for easy viewing and access.

I bought a 2001 Mazda Tribute (used) in March 2003. About a month later, it began stalling frequently - mostly when I was backing out of a driveway/parking spot. I took it to the local Mazda dealership in July 2003 and they looked it over and could find no explanation, but they did a PCM update on it anyway.

Vehicle is a 2003 Mazda Tribute, which had a recall 04V583000 for vehicle speed control cables. Was told this recall was fixed on 8/11/2005. This vehicle has horrible issues with sudden acceleration while driving down the highway, it will not slow down, the accelerator is stuck wide open and braking will not slow the vehicle down.10/10
